This is the top question when someone gets behind on their home mortgage… whether the hardship is due to COVID-19 issues…job loss, death in the family, illness, military relocation… the question comes up and panic sometimes sets in.
But, there are answers and safe places to find those answers!
The first step:
– Call your lender! Once you find yourself in a bind and are not able to make that mortgage payment, your mortgage lender is the first place to call.
– There is more than one option as well… perhaps a loan modification would work better… especially if your hardship is going to be temporary….
BEWARE of scammers during this time who offer to take over your payments and let you live in the home….
…or who say they will buy the property and let you lease it back and then rebuy it latter…
